Glass Slippers and Kentucky Basketball

We are in the Final Four!  I'd re-painted my nails for this past weekend's games... and I made blue cookies!  We brought them down to Brent and Jessica's house, where we spent the weekend!

After an eventful Friday evening (filled with champagne, attempts at paying Clue, and LOTS of pizza rolls), we woke up far too early on Saturday... thanks to puppies and babies.

We lounged around in the morning (the dogs strategically lounged underneath Emma while she ate) and then Jessica and I headed out to go see Cinderella!

The movie was REALLY good and I was very impressed.  It stuck to the story line and was well-acted.  Disney does it again!

The boys stayed home to smoke some ribs and a pork shoulder.  Ben and Brady came up for the day to hang out and there was still far too much food.  I think Jessica planned for a small army... but it was delicious!

We got back from the movie, at dinner, and hung out for a bit while the kids played.  Ben took Brady home and Brent and Jessica put Emma to bed and it was time for the big game!  I lost 10 years from my life, I'm sure, because I was SO nervous for UK.  They stress me out... can't they just win by 25 so that I don't have to worry?  It would be nice...

After the game, we had plans to play some cards and hang out, but Emma had other plans and decided to not sleep.  So with priorities in order, Brent and Jessica went to bed with her to try to calm her down and Aaron and I headed to bed with some very sleepy puppies.

Sunday morning, I again got up far too early with the dogs.  They ran around outside and then I took them back upstairs to feed them.  They were not interested.  Instead, they tried to wake Aaron, whine at the door to go play, and generally just be puppies...

After their non-breakfast and our delicious breakfast (Jessica made cinnamon rolls!), we headed up to Mom and Dad Ballews house for lunch with them and Mimi and PopPop! We ate pizza, chit chatted, and watched basketball.  We didn't stay long since we will be back down there for Easter, but it was nice to get to see everybody.

So that ended our long and fun weekend... now we get to spend this week baking things for Easter meals, regaining our energy (the pups are still so tired, its hilarious) and anxiously awaiting Saturday's Final Four games!

My Life is Shorter Due to UK Basketball

This weekend marked the beginning of my anxiety.  Watching Kentucky play in the NCAA tournament is ALWAYS difficult for me.  Unless we are winning by 20, I am nervous.  I don't really yell at the TV (though sometimes it does happen).  Mostly, I just sit tense and still and stare at the game.  I'm almost certain that every game that we play that is NOT a complete slaughter takes about 2 years off of my life from the stress.  If I die early, they are to blame.  Luckily, we beat Hampton by a lot, so that game allowed me to relax.  Cincinnati was a different story.  We watched the game with a friend and UK alum.  We agreed that, while we were winning by quite a bit, it didn't feel like it... so I was nervous.

I was even all decked out in my UK gear for the games!

But we made it through this weekend!  We are 36-0!  And we are playing WVU on Thursday WAY past my bedtime.  Why is UK always the after 9pm game?  It's mean and it makes Friday's hard to wake up for.  PLUS, my boss is a WVU fan, so one of us will be unhappy on Friday.  Let's hope it's him.  Sorry Mike.

On a completely different note... in between games, I made a wreath!  Our home was in need of some spring-time decorations and Pintrest is full of springtime crafts!  So I jumped on the crafting bandwagon.  I think it turned out really well!

 Happy Spring and Go Cats!

All Grown Up and Cheering on Big Blue!

This weekend, my parents came to visit.  They came down to go to the ordination of a family friend into the Dominican diaconate in D.C. on Saturday morning.  Since we are close to D.C., they stayed with us on Friday and Saturday night.  We went out to dinner on Friday and played Euchre (well, Dad and Aaron played, Mom and I tried to remember trump and then lost... twice).

Saturday morning, they left for D.C. and we hung out around the house.  There were movies and naps...

Again, Gus takes Lucy's spot.  He is very weird.
We ran some errands and watched UK make it to the SEC Championship!  Then my parents came back and we went out to dinner.  We got seated at a restaurant and for 20 minutes, we didn't get acknowledged.  So we left.  The second place took about 10 minutes to stop at our table after we were seated.  Apparently we look scary... I don't know.  Anyway, once they started serving us, we ate delicious Cajun food (and even MORE delicious Cajun dessert!) and headed back home.  We thought about watching a movie or playing a game, but we ended up just chatting and heading to bed.

Sunday morning we woke up with the pups to celebrate Gus's first birthday!  He had a special breakfast (Lucy did too... You can't explain to a dog that they aren't getting the special treats cause it's not their birthday too, so she just got less of the gross wet food than he did) and then a stuffed squeaky caterpillar that was about as long as he is... and Lucy got a squeaky Peep.

The Peep lasted all of 10 minutes before it was gutted and its stuffing strewn across the lawn.  At least they enjoyed it.

We met my parent's for brunch after church and then they headed home.  When we got home, Aaron got ready to go mountain biking... I got ready to watch UK win the SEC!  The pups and I watched basketball and napped while Aaron rode through mud.  Fun times had by all!

After a special dinner for the birthday boy (again, Lucy benefited) and some super-on-key birthday singing, we settled in for some Madam Secretary and NCAA bracket-ing.  By the end of the night, UK was slotted to win on both of our brackets, and Gus's gift looked like this...

The bottom is now squeaker-less and stuffing-less.  And I am ready for the tournament!

Go Cats!  Looking for #9!

Sometimes We Are Just Boring...

So it turns out that sometimes, I just have nothing to put on the blog... so here's a summary of our lives.

We had a huge storm go through the area.  We both went to work in the morning and then came home at lunch and worked from home... with hot chocolate and some games.  I was productive, I promise!

Then that weekend, we went to a new brewery, Corcoran Brewing in Purcellville.  It was pet-friendly, so the pups got to come along!  The beer was really good, we played card games with some friends who met us there, the pups got tons of treats and attention from other visitors, and then they slept through most of Sunday.  Win win win win!  Of course I didn't take any pictures there though.  I was more concerned with Gus's desire to explore and meet every single person that was there and Lucy's desire to disappear behind my chair to quietly eat her rawhide.  Overall, they were really good.

They are, however, not the best car-riders.  Lucy lays down in the middle of the seat, Gus sits on her, then he changes sides.  This happens for the entire ride.  He can't sit still, she can't give up space to him.  Whatever.

The whole back seat is their's and they are both in the same spot...
So, this is a lame post, but that's our life right now.  Also, we are working on putting in a fence.  Which will be great for the dogs' constant barking at passer-bys and us not having to go to HOA court anymore to defend our pups against crappy neighbors who complain to the HOA and not to us.

Now it's time for the best season of the year... NCAA tournament!!!!  Go Cats!!!
